The President’s Corner: Catherine Cooper

A new year has begun for the ALSRT and I would like to welcome you to join us.  It is my pleasure to be able to serve the radiographers of the state of Alabama as president of the society this year.  We are trying to keep up with the 21st century and now have a fan page on facebook and a page on My Space.  Check us out when you get a chance.  We hope this additional means of communication will help reach more radiographers in the state.  We would like to see our membership double this year.

We have several events on the schedule for this year.  On October 2nd, our educator’s chapter sponsored a CE meeting.  The talks for the meeting were “Revival for the Radiographer” and “iPhone/iPod Touch and You:  How to incorporate this device in the electronic management of clinical files and your classroom.”  We are thankful to our speakers, Christie Bolton, program director for Jefferson State Community College and Ericka Lasley, radiography clinical coordinator for Southern Union State Community College.  They did an excellent job.

We have decided to bring our annual meeting for 2010 back to land, after having three very successful cruises for our last three annual meetings.  Our 2010 annual meeting will be held April 16th and 17th at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham.  We look forward to being able to present a quality meeting with interesting topics for a reasonable price.  If you are interested in presenting at our meeting, please contact one of the board members.  Look for the brochure which should be mailed out by the beginning of next year.  Go ahead and mark your calendars and plan on attending.

We have over 4,000 radiographers in Alabama.  Around 1% of these radiographers are members of the state society.  One of my personal goals this year as president is to increase our membership.  If you have been a member of the society in the past and your membership has lapsed, I would like to invite you to return to the society and help us continue to grow.  If you have never joined the society, please think about it.  We can use fresh ideas to help us grow.

Catherine Cooper, M.S., R.T. (R)(CT)
