MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

GUIDELINES

 Introduction:

In recognition of their contributions to radiologic technology in Alabama, the Board of Directors of the Alabama Society of Radiologic Technologists established the "Ralph LeCroy/Ann Watson Memorial Scholarship."  Additionally, the Board has established the "Ralph LeCroy/Ann Watson Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund" to assist in funding this award.

Purpose:

1.       To recognize and honor the contributions made by Mr. Ralph LeCroy and Mrs. Ann Watson to the Alabama Society of Radiologic Technologists.

2.       To provide financial assistance to deserving students while attending school.

3.       To promote and support educational excellence and opportunity.

Guidelines:

1.       Establish an endowment fund for the purpose of receiving tax exempt contributions from members, friends, and vendors to support the scholarship award

2.       The amount of the scholarship award is set at $1,000.

3.       The scholarship will be awarded annually to coincide with the annual meeting.  If there are no nominations for the award during a given year, the scholarship will not be awarded.

4.       It will be awarded to the recipient at the awards luncheon during the annual meeting.

Criteria:

1.       That the "Ralph LeCroy/Ann Watson Memorial Scholarship" be awarded annually to a deserving student - (student is defined as an individual in good standing as a member of the Alabama Society of Radiologic Technologists, pursuing a certificate/degree from an accredited program/institution, from the state of Alabama, in a medical imaging specialty) - (medical imaging specialty is defined as radiography, nuclear medicine, radiation therapist, or sonography).

2.       Candidates for the award must be nominated by the student's program director or faculty member.

a.       Candidates must be submitted for nomination on the nomination application form.

b.       No more than one nominee will be considered from any one Program in a calendar year.

c.       All nominations must be received by the Board (Administrative Assistant) not later than ninety days prior to the first day of the annual meeting.  All nominations received after the deadline will be returned to the respective program.

3.       The Board of Directors of the Alabama Society of Radiologic Technologists will select the recipient based on the following guidelines:

 .        Candidates must be members of the Alabama Society of Radiologic Technologists in good standing.

a.       Candidates must be nominated in writing by the student's program director or faculty member of the school.

b.       Nominations will be accepted from program directors and faculty representing accredited programs only from the state of Alabama.

4.       A three-member committee of the Board will review all nominations either by convening a meeting or by a mail system.  Each member will score the nominations based on preselected criteria.  The candidate with the highest average score will be declared the recipient of the award for that year.  In the event of a tie between candidates, the selection committee will determine the recipient using the secret ballot voting method.  The candidate receiving the majority vote will be declared the recipient.

Nomination Requirements:

Program directors or faculty members must request nomination application materials from the Board (Administrative Assistant) or use applications printed in the BAMA RAYS.  The nomination process must be completed at least ninety days prior to the first day of the next annual meeting.

Program directors and faculty of prospective scholarship recipients must:

1.       Submit documentation of acceptance into an accredited program.

2.       Submit a completed nomination form.

3.       Provide official copy of nominees' current transcript with an overall GPA

4.       Provide a letter of recommendation explaining why the candidate should receive consideration.

5.       Submit the student self-evaluation.

Amount of Award:

The total amount awarded is determined by the Board of Directors based on available funds, not to exceed $1,000.

1.       Current overall GPA

2.       Verification as ALSRT member

3.       Recommendation from Program director

4.       Self-evaluation

5.       Financial need assessment
