ALSRT NEWS

Congratulations to Pamela Cartright, our 2013 ALSRT "Life Member"!

An exciting part of the 2013 Awards Ceremony was surprising Pam Cartright to tears as we recognized her many years of service to ALSRT by naming her a "Life Member". Life membership recognizes exemplary service to the Society, and is possible only after unanimous approval of the Board of Directors and a vote of the membership at the Annual Meeting. With a master's degree from UAB and certification in radiography and radiation therapy, Pam has served in many capacities that have enriched the profession and the quality of care provided to patients. Beyond ALSRT, leadership roles have included Alabama Radiation Therapists Society, Coastal Society of Imaging and Therapy, Georgia Society of Radiologic Technologists, Association of Educators in Imaging and Radiologic Sciences and the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. Truly, her career has been full and her accomplishments are many. She is a staunch supporter of ALSRT, speaking regularly, and maintaining her membership even when relocated to other states. She has been a Radiation Therapy educator for many years, and currently serves as Radiation Therapy program director at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga. If you have spent much time with Pam, you would admire her consistently upbeat attitude and her contagious laugh. Her CV says that her Personal Goal is to "Live Joyously", and the Board of Directors feels she does that very well. Congratulations, Pam!

ALABAMA -- One of 7 States Without Licensure

Do you know that in the state of Alabama, you have to be licensed to be a cosmetologist or nail technician? This means that hairdressers are better regulated than people who perform medical imaging examinations. According to the ASRT, Alabama is one of seven states that have no licensure or regulatory provisions for radiologic personnel. The Board of Directors of the ALSRT is striving to bring forth licensure in order to assure every citizen in the state of Alabama receives radiation imaging services or radiation therapy by qualified personnel.
